We give thanks to God, our Provider. I recall the first time I brought my wife to CREST office and her first impression was it was like a disaster zone. A regular double story link house that serves as administration office, staff hostel and machine repair.
Our prayers for a new and affordable office have been answered. Soon we will move into a double story corner house in Bandar Botanic in Klang, offered by a generous volunteer.
We will send out our relocation notice soon. Continue to pray with us for God to provide volunteers, transportation and financial support to carry out this operation.
It has always been challenging to plan and execute activities for the shorter month of February. Adding to the challenge this year was the Chinese New Year holidays. The Wilderness Survival, Search & Rescue training scheduled for 3rd March to be called off because only 3 persons had signed up.
The pace picks up in March as various churches in Malaysia moves into disaster preparedness and response. We praise God for the churches and NGOs who have requested for training events in their region or state. I am praying for these trainings will not clash with the coming General Election. Please pray with CREST for God’s strength, wisdom and knowledge to be upon us as we continue to serve in His Kingdom.
Background
Following the door to door assessments done in Taman Senangin, Prai, CREST placed an order for 400 units of wardrobes (1770mm x 480mm x 101mm, 43 kg) with a supplier in Kuala Lumpur 1 month ahead of the delivery date. Prior to the distribution, a team of volunteers was deployed to verify the address and to distribute notification letters to the recipients.
It was difficult to recruit volunteers this time. However, we thank God for the 10 volunteers from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and 20 more from Penang.
This was my 4th trip to Kunming after the 2014 Ludian Earthquake to conduct training with our local partners. It was a great joy to see the brothers and sisters in the province of Yunnan consistently sharing on disaster awareness with the locals. Yunnan is one of the provinces in China that has the highest risk in earthquake and poverty among the minority tribes.
A group of 9 completed IDRN 1100 & 1300. May they bring what they have learned to their family, friends and community.
On behalf of CREST, I would like to wish everyone a blessed New Year. Isaiah 40:30-31, even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Let’s put our hope in the Lord in this beginning of year 2018.
Background
After the distribution in Zoo Road, CREST received request for aid from the Tamil speaking community in Taman Senangin, Perai. This community informed that they had not received any help following the recent flood.
Objective
1. To conduct need assessment together with the local Tamil Methodist Church at Taman Senangin, Perai. Our assessment will focus on post-flood recovery.
On behalf of CREST, I would like to thank our partners (HISTeam, Methodist Crisis Relief & Development), donors and volunteers for your faithful support towards our response in Penang. Most importantly, CREST staff had worked long hours and overtime during the response.
Background
The cleaning and garbage disposal team Nov 6 to 9 noticed that nearly 90% of the furniture and electrical appliances were destroyed by the floods and strewn along Zoo Road, Air Itam. To restore the local residents to their activities of daily living, CREST will distribute Senheng cash vouchers.
Furniture vouchers distribution is another planned activity when a reliable distributor can be identified.
Background
On 5 November 2017, heavy rain in Penang island and mainland caused sudden flooding in several areas. Local news reported that flood water levels at Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Terengganu water level reached waist level at about 6pm. CREST and HISTeam immediately deployed personnel to do rapid assessment.
2 rescue boats from Port Dickson and 2 container-load of food and water were arranged by CREST and a private company to meet the immediate needs requested by the local government.
