Since years ago, CREST has dedicated the month of September for training events for a purpose. Firstly, we are trying to avoid Malaysia monsoon session from Oct-Dec, and we may equip our volunteers to response when disaster happen during the session of monsoon.

CREST was in Kuching, Sarawak from 16th to 19th of August. The National Economic Empowerment Coalition (NEEC) Conference is an annual event held at different locations throughout Malaysia aimed at providing a platform for various community development organizations to promote and share practical ways to improve the lives of indigenous communities all over Malaysia.

1st 2nd 8th 9th July, CREST was invited by MCRD Northern District to conduct Crisis Relief Training for the members of the Chinese Methodist churches. After the two weekends of training, they are passionate and ready to help during crisis. Topics on flood, fire, earthquake and ICS, Logistisc & Distribution were shared throughout the training. |

On 10 Jun, we have conducted community based disaster preparedness training using IDRN 1100 syllabus at FGA Kuala Lumpur. 35 participants signed up for this training. This would not have been successful without good partnership and support from our host FGA Kuala Lumpur, our relief partners Histeam (7979), The Pink Shoe and Touch Community. Thank God for his wisdom and our helpful volunteers. |
Background
On 25 and 26 May, heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon triggered flooding and landslides in 15 of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka. As of 31 May, about 630,000 people and 9,000 houses have been damaged according to UN Resident Coordinator for Sri Lanka. 6 clusters (Health, Food Security & Nutrition, Shelter and NFI, WASH, Education and Protection) have been activated in response to the local needs.
CREST received appeals from 3 local partners, and a relief and assessment team was deployed from 14 – 21 June for initial distributions and to conduct needs assessment with local partners.
Background
Our last visit to Philippines date on Dec 2016. Based on the last report, Omega Emergency Respond has returned to Mindanao for serving in the local community. Crest requires to follow up with livelihood beneficiaries after typhoon Haiyan and Hangupit.
Objective

On 16 April, The Pink Shoes (TPS) celebrated their 3rd year anniversary. CREST was invited to set up a booth and to introduce our ministry to TPS volunteers. We want to put on record our thanks to CREST staff and volunteers who had come to celebrate this remarkable event with TPS

CREST and Malaysian CARE have been meeting to share ideas, information and experiences in the area of disaster response. CREST looks forward to partnering with other agencies who share similar goals in serving the poor and needy in crisis.

Background
Background: Since 2014 during the east coast flood, CREST has working closely with Kampung Kuala Telang. Besides sending relief items, we have there for years to support the local on rebuilding, development and risk reduction. During 25-29 Jan 2017, the heavy rain fall at Kg. Telang has overflow Sg. Jelai and Sg. Telang, following developed a 4ft-high water, affected 49 out of 69 household.
Before the 2017 flood, CREST and the local community has built 9 rafts for flood emergency to keep safe their valuable items from the flood water. All rafts are functioning during the 2017 flood.
Objective
1. To build eight floating rafts for the villagers, two for the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Telang and one for the community hall.
2. To bring a group of eight volunteers to work together (build rafts) with the local villagers.
3. To have fellowship with Bob and Melissa Seong for preparedness training @ Kuala Lipis.
Background
After Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 and Hagupit in 2014 CREST Malaysia and our local partner Omega Emergency Respond working together in livelihood project in Letye and Samar.
Project 1 – 10 x Pedicabs in Tacloban (Update by Omega 3 April, 5 Pedicabs have paid in full)
Project 2 – Pedicab beneficiary – Ramon extended his business to Micro Enterprise
Project 3 – Pedicab beneficiary – Mr. Merchol / Mark extended his business as pedicab spare parts supply and repair.
