1. Johor Flood 3rd-9th March
CREST responded to the flooding in Johor together with REACH, the Anglican church
disaster relief arm, around the areas of Chaah and Yong Peng. The teams set up base camp at St. Stephen’s Church in Yong Peng before heading to Chaah to help with the post flooding cleaning in coordination with the local on site coordinators. CREST and REACH had also met up with the Catholic church’s CARITAS team from Johor Bahru as well as HIS Team 7979 in cleaning up classrooms and furnitures at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Chaah before finishing up with another house.
Towards the end of the trip CREST and REACH were joined by volunteers from St. Peter’s church Kulai as well as FGA KL relief volunteers in cleaning up a residential street in Yong Peng. When the cleaning was done, CREST conducted a post-flood cleaning training for the St. Peters volunteers.
2. Johor Flood 19th-22nd March
Following the previous trip CREST once again partnered with REACH to return to Yong
Peng to continue cleaning homes after a week or so of rest and recuperation.
Within this trip CREST had sponsored RM30k worth of home appliances for flood afflicted families within Yong Peng. St Stephen’s Church Yong Peng and volunteers from REACH played a vital role in the distribution of the aid rendered to local families within Yong Peng.
