SEGAMAT FLOOD RELIEF (03-04 FEB)

Background


25 January 2017, heavy rains were non-stop in the area of Southern Peninsular Malaysia and causes 70 evacuation centres opened in Johor and 8,204 people from 2,427 families evacuated from their home. State Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said Segamat district was the worst affected with 6,609 people (2,012 families) and the number of evacuation centres opened in Segamat district had increased to 50.

On 24 January 2017, 7.39am, Crest has received alert from the weather focus team and same alert has forwarded to our local partner Vincent Teo Chin Wah, the founder of Persatuan Kebajikan Kasih Segamat, our previous relief partner in 2011 and 2006 flood.


Objective 1. Follow up after the rapid assessment done by JBPF team head by Bro Sonny Lim. Assessment report via Whatapps on 26 Jan:- a. Generally the flood Damage is not as serious as last time except those at low lying areas. According to Pr. Vincent, if we want to help we need to be fast. He says He and his Calvary Church is willing to handle the flood relief if we provide the fund or the resources. b. Some Immediate needs : 1) Mattresses, blankets, pillows 2) Pressure jet cleaner 3) Old clothes 4) Toiletries : Soap powder, brooms, sweeper, pails, etc. 5) Stoves 6) Food: rice, noodles & biscuits c. An initial RM 2,000 has been given from JBPF to Pr. Vincent for the above flood relief purposes. 2. Crest has provided RM 5,000 on 27 Jan 2017 for Persatuan Kebjikan Kashi Segamat to fulfil the needs of 14 centers have affected by the flood. 3. Follow up further needs with Pr. Vincent.

Travel Events 03 Feb, 1500 - Travel from Klang to Segamat, overnight in Koptown. 04 Feb, 0730 - Breakfast with Pr. Vincent, received update from him. 0930 - Arrived at Shelter Home. 1030 - Arived at Grace Home. 1130 - Departed from Segamat to Klang.

Background: This home is single story terrace house, it has provide shelter for approximately 25 ladies whom are old, mental illness and without parents. During the flood, all have evacuated to higher ground but some household items have damaged. Water level is around 2.5ft height.


Damages Report:-

  1. Fridge – RM 2,450

  2. Washing Machine – RM 1,750

  3. Office Table – RM 380

Total – RM 4,580



2. Grace Home

Location: Lot 489, Jalan Maryani, Kg. Jawa, 85000 Segamat, Johor. GPS: N 2.5359, E 102.8253

Background: This home is single story terrace house, it has provide accommodation for approximately 30 old and disable ladies. During the flood, water level is around 3ft height.


Damage Report:

  1. Cupboard 15 x 89.90 = RM 1,348.50

  2. Relax Chair = RM 780.00

  3. Table 5 x 65.00 = RM 325.00

  4. Shoes Rack = RM 45.00

  5. Washing Machine = RM 1,750.00

Total = RM 4,248.50


Recommendations

The initial fund RM 5,000 will be used for Shelter Home for the need of rebuilding, repair and refurbish of their center. Request for additional RM 5,000 for Grace Home with the same purpose.
